I'm wondering how gems effect our score? I have a new Runed Scarlet Ruby gem which is blue but better than my epic (BC) ones. It still shows as rare (blue) which it is but I'm just wondering how it effects my score?

PS: I've replaced 3 BC epic gems with 3 WOTLK blue gems with much better stats and my rating went down 1 point for each gem..... that's just not right.
OK here's another question: I put on RING OF THE AFTERLIFE which has a score of 146 (or 140 not sure) and my score goes down to 608. With the Violet Signet (which only has a score of 120) my score is 626. Now ROTA is a WOTLK green and better than the Violet Signet BUT the violet signet is a BC epic. Shouldn't the score be better if the actual gear AND the gears score is higher? I would expect my score to be higher wearing the WOTLK green but it is not. How come?
