I'm not sure if this possibly a bug or not, but I found this slightly unusual.

Should this character have a such a big score advantage over me, considering his gear?

Yes,

Item level of his gear is higher when totalled (the value column is the item level), and he's not missing several enchants which are worth up to 10 points each.

PS: brutal glad gear is item levelled up with sunwell gear for pvp to pve comparison
