Both Firefox and IE have a mini search plugin in the top right corner of the window, for things like Google and such.

Armory already has come out with their own search plugin where you just type the name in and then it goes straight to the list of characters with that name.

I don't think it would be too hard to create a plugin for wow-heroes.

I believe that it is to be encoded in XML format.

And to correct for the realm problem, just have an options menu to re select and save the realm you would like to search by.

You can already do this on your own using "keywords" in Firefox:

Make a WoW-Heroes lookup on any character in your realm.
Copy the "direct link" address (mine is "http://www.wow-heroes.com/index.php?zone=us&server=Rexxar&name=kaeldra").
Open the "Organize Bookmarks" window (Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks).
Choose a place to put it. I use the "Bookmarks Menu" for all my keywords.
Make a new bookmark called "WoW-Heroes Search" or whatever you think best describes it.
Put your direct link address in the "Location:" field.
Replace your character name with "%s" (no quotes).
Set the keyword to something easy to type, but clear that it is a WoW-Heroes search. I like "whero".
Now just type "whero BLAH" in the address bar and it will be replaced with "http://www.wow-heroes.com/index.php?zone=us&server=Rexxar&name=BLAH".

You can do this with any site you want. I've got keywords for Google, Wikipedia, Twitter, WoWHead, WoW-Heroes, WoWWiki, and WoWInterface.
