with the changes to how shaman use spirit (elemental gets hit out of it, and resto gets mana regen from it), Brilliant spellthread should now be a 15 rating enchant instead of a 12...

Ok i just started tanking im 80 originally a dps and i put in 5 points into Anticipation and 66 points into frost and its distributed about the way i like but i want some good adv...

When using the compare tab, you are stuck with comparing whatever specs the characters logged out as. If, for example, I want to look at the tank sets of 2 paladins, and one logged...

Dual wield tank is posible but you'll need a hell of a lot hit rating to get capped and you also will need some more expertice a two handed DK needs 8% for soft cap and 17% hit fo...

Why?

1) Not a critical error, but in the rotation (really a priority system but semantics) it is better to obliterate once before using blood runes. This makes the rune CD a bit smoother.

2) Using the glyph of disease (GoD) removes Improved Icy Talons benefit for your fellow melee... likely the main reason you spec frost and not unholy, post 3.3.

3) With 3 points in nerves of cold steel, the hit you require is 5% (164), not 11 or 12% or whatever was posted by the OP. With boomkin or shadow priest in raid, even your spells are down to 11% (288), so your specials won't miss either. To check this, go here: http://www.wow-heroes.com and click [hit calculator], lol. With all the new ICC stuff (rep ring, etc), it is quite easy to maintain a +290 hit rating.

Last two points are fairly critical. Not that I put much store in rankings, but I am the no. 1 frost DK on my server as rated by wow-heroes.
2. This absolutely isn't correct in 3.3; your fellow melee always get the haste buff now (it's always on, even when you're out of combat)

3. 5% is for special attacks

66 points in frost is too many; You also need at least 5 points in blood (Blade Barrier) to be a valid tank (imo any dk spec without the 5/5/5 base is a fail spec)

If you're doing 2 handed frost tanking, you'll want 2 handed specialization out of the blood tree, and possibly bladed armor, and possibly the first level of scent of blood

You'll also probably want epidemic out of unholy to make your diseases last longer.

Here's an example of a 2 handed frost tank spec or one with the haste buff

ok, so the problems I see

2. Glyphs: there's no reason to have glyph of scourge strike and glyph of obliterate... do one or the other.

3. I'm really not sure what you're doing with your spec in general, but there's a lot of things that kind of make me go "huh?" I haven't done unholy dps, but the 2 points in butchery seem wasted; I'm pretty sure the butchery ones would be better spent elsewhere (for ex: endless winter or black ice, especially if you're going to spec deeply into frost).

IMO: You don't go far enough frost to justify spending the points the way that you do; 3/5 Icy Talons isn't really getting you that much, and you skipped Black ice and endless winter, which are one of the better dps talents you could have gotten in frost

I suggest making a decision on whether to go dual wield, or 2hander, and if you want to dual wield you really should go with a frost spec rather than unholy. If dual wield, then look around for some spec info for dual wield frost. Elitist Jerks has some good info. They probably have good info on unholy as well. Make sure you read up enough so that you know why you're choosing each of your talents.

Keep in mind that frost is a more reactive spec than either of the other 2 dps specs, since you have to keep track of your procs (killing machine especially)

4. Gemming, this is a big problem for you. You have WAY too much hit, so those hit gems are wasted, agility is silly to gem for, you don't have the gems to activate your meta. I suggest regemming and just use 1 nightmare tear, in a blue gem slot for the socket bonus if you have one, and then otherwise just use inscribed ametrine (Str/Crit) if you're trying to match a yellow socket for the socket bonus and Bold cardinal ruby (Str) everywhere else. You're also missing a gem, and don't have a belt buckle in your belt.

5. Enchants; most of your gear is not enchanted. Get enchants on everything, and make sure you're getting the right enchants.

6. General Gear: Ditch the mark of supremacy, and run Heroic Forge of souls for the Needle encrusted scorpion.

For reference: I currently am dual wield frost dps on my DK (Darkalen), and I did a ~ 9.2k dps the last time I did Saurfang.

also expertice raises slightly: a two handed DK needs about 24 expertice while a dualwielded DK needs about 26-28 expertice.

This isn't correct. In general, a dual wield dk needs less hit rating than a 2h dk does, due to nerves of cold steel. True, a dual wield dk will still have white hit misses unless they reach a much higher hit rating, but that's not really important.

Personally, I don't think threat is much of an issue for DK's anymore due to the buff to Icy Touch, so you're probably fine going with any combination of slow dps weapons (better threat) or fast tank weapons (better survivability)
