Alex, I disagree. I think that rating an item level 232 more than an item level 245 just because they 232 has 2 gem slots is completely incorrect. The item level 232 was specifically designed with 2 slots, whereas the item level 245 does not need gems to be better than the previous one.
What I can suggest is that you gems count towards a total item level, rather than being added on top of it. for example, you have Icecore staff. Well you would only get the 232 points from ilevel if it's enchanted to the best enchant, and gemmed with the best possible gems.
This is the only coherent solution I can see, as otherwise you would have to calculate the gear level for everysingle class, but also spec, as stat weightings change according to which spec you are running.

Hi there and thanks for your reply. I agree with your examples, but there you compare items of the same iLevel - the problem is that currently, a LOWER item level, with more sockets, will always be better than an item from the ilevel just above, with no sockets, and this does not match real gear progression. for example Icecore staff fully gremmed will most likely be better than any 232 MH + 232 Oh combination.
Is this something that is in the works of fixing, or this is a system you are happy with ?
A lot of players now use this as their 'logout gear', to boost their numbers... and I don't think it relects the grame progression properly

I agree and made a post about it. Because gems are calculated AFTER the overall item score, then we end up having items from an inferior level rated higher just because they are socketed.
This is wrong/unrelfective of game progression, especially for the extra socket profession.

unsure... SoC does ridiculous dps on nax trash (although i havent been in nax for like ages), when i spamm that after a LT, I am competing with rogues FoK... When I reach 10 stacks of illustration of dragon souls before i start spamming, then im defo over them.
RoF in that situation would only give you avergae AE dps. If you want massive RoF damage, do demo
