Armory already has come out with their own search plugin where you just type the name in and then it goes straight to the list of characters with that name.
I don't think it would be too hard to create a plugin for wow-heroes.
I believe that it is to be encoded in XML format.
And to correct for the realm problem, just have an options menu to re select and save the realm you would like to search by.

I was wondering if you cool cats could add a Check Mark to the left of the gems they have socket.
For example: If the current gems in their gear fits the socket bonus, show a check mark to the left of the gems. If the gems do not match, or they don't have gems in the item at all show a x mark.
You can easily just grab the x and check mark models from the ones you use for the belt buckles, extra blacksmithing sockets, and what not.
It's not a real big issue, and yes I know some people intend to not socket their gear to achieve the socket bonus because other options would outweigh the benefits from the socket bonus, but hey can be just another small upgrade to the site.

WOW operates in what is called a sandbox. So no game data can be transmitted from the internet to WOW. Only way possible would be via injection with is against EULA and the TOS of blizzard. Usually injectors are bots such as glider. It is legally impossible to build a mod to send data from armory, wow-heroes, or any other kind of online database. The only legal way possible is to build your own data cache of players gear and have the mod be able to access the internet and update its cache, then once you exit and reload WOW it would reload the newly updated cache with fresh data. The only problem in this would be the monstrous size of your data cache which would slow WOW down to extreme measures.
